Texas Rod Builders is in its second year and covers Texas and any Honorary Texans. Our intent is to promote, improve, teach, and to share ideas and techniques of Custom Rod Building.

What We Do

We are a non-profit club that seeks members to network and learn about building rods, and also to promote the rod building craft in the community.

Since there were no active clubs available in the area, Texas Rod Builders was started by a few individuals throughout this state that wanted to share their knowledge and to interact with others that have the same passions.

Even though we are only a few months old, we already have over 30 members with some national and international Membership....most notable Doc Ski, Putter, and Owen & Sandra Dare from Australia. Not counting our local talent like Lloyd Pepper, we are getting together a very talented group of Rod Builders from around the state.

One of our initial programs that  was started almost immedialetly, is the "Rods for Soldiers" program. We were requested to build a rod for Brad Thomas who was severely injured in Iraq. Brad is still in the hosptial so the rod was presented to his dad, Rocky Thomas.

From that donation, we have set up a director for the program, Pat Helton, and are continuing and expanding the program as we speak. We have many suppliers that are currently donating the blanks, grips, and rod components we need to assemble these rods, but it is not enough to cover our program in its entirety, so it is still being covered by our members' own pocketbooks.
